One of the most astonishing privileges of salvation is direct access to the living God in prayer. Before Christ, the presence of God was separated from the people by thick curtains in the tabernacle and temple — only the high priest could enter the Holy of Holies, and only once a year, with blood. But when Jesus died, Matthew records that "the veil of the temple was rent in twain from the top to the bottom" (Matthew 27:51). God tore the barrier in two — from the top, His side.
The writer of Hebrews tells believers to come boldly to God: "Let us therefore come boldly unto the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need" (Hebrews 4:16). Boldly — not timidly, not with groveling, not through a priest or a mediator other than Christ. You, as a child of God, have been given the breathtaking privilege of walking directly into the throne room of the universe and speaking to your Father.
