Overview

Mathetes.ai is a Bible study platform. We believe in transparency and keeping things simple. We collect the minimum data needed to provide our service, we never sell your data, and we never will.

What We Collect

Without an Account (Free Bible Reading)

If you use Mathetes.ai without creating an account, we collect:

  • Nothing personally identifiable. No tracking cookies, no analytics cookies, no advertising pixels.
  • Local preferences (theme, reading mode) are stored in your browser's localStorage and never sent to our servers.
  • Cloudflare security cookies may be set automatically by our hosting provider to protect against bots and abuse. These are strictly necessary and contain no personal data.

With an Account (Premium Features)

If you create an account, we additionally collect:

  • Email address — for authentication (magic links) and essential notifications
  • Display name — shown in community chat (you choose this)
  • Reading position — so you can pick up where you left off
  • Bookmarks, highlights, and notes — your personal study data
  • Study plan progress — course completion tracking
  • Chat messages — messages sent in community channels
  • Payment information — processed by Stripe; we never see or store your card number

What We Don't Collect

  • We do not use Google Analytics or any third-party analytics
  • We do not use advertising cookies or tracking pixels
  • We do not sell, rent, or share your data with third parties
  • We do not profile you for advertising purposes
  • We do not track which verses you read (reading is completely private)

Cookies

We use only essential cookies:

  • Authentication cookie (HttpOnly, Secure) — keeps you logged in
  • Cloudflare security cookies — bot protection and DDoS mitigation

We do not use any non-essential cookies. That's why you don't see a cookie consent banner — we don't need one.

How We Use Your Data

  • To provide the service (sync your bookmarks, notes, reading position)
  • To authenticate you (magic links, passkeys)
  • To process payments (via Stripe)
  • To deliver community features (chat, DMs)
  • To send essential emails (password resets, billing receipts)

We will never send you marketing emails without your explicit opt-in.

Where Your Data Lives

Your data is stored on Cloudflare's global network (D1 database, Durable Objects, R2 storage). Cloudflare operates data centers worldwide and is compliant with major privacy frameworks. Payment data is processed and stored by Stripe.

Data Retention

  • Account data — retained while your account is active
  • Chat messages — retained indefinitely in community channels
  • Deleted account — all personal data removed within 30 days of deletion request

Your Rights

You have the right to:

  • Access your data — view everything we have about you
  • Export your data — download your bookmarks, notes, highlights
  • Delete your data — request complete account deletion
  • Correct your data — update your profile information

Children's Privacy

Bible reading on Mathetes.ai is available to everyone without an account. Account creation requires users to be at least 13 years of age. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13.

Changes to This Policy

If we make material changes to this privacy policy, we will notify registered users by email and update the "Last updated" date above.
