There is one question that eclipses all others in its eternal weight: Have you been born again? Not, "Are you religious?" Not, "Do you go to church?" Not even, "Do you believe in God?" But have you personally experienced the new birth that Jesus described as the absolute requirement for entering the kingdom of God?
In John 3, a man named Nicodemus came to Jesus at night. He was a Pharisee — educated, devout, respected. He knew the Old Testament, kept the law, and was a ruler among his people. Yet Jesus interrupted Nicodemus's polite opening and delivered the most stunning statement: "Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God" (John 3:3). Not "unless he is good enough." Not "unless he tries harder." Unless he is born again.
If a man as religious as Nicodemus needed a new birth, so does every person who has ever lived — including you.
