About this confession

Produced by the Westminster Assembly of divines (1643–1646) at the call of the English Parliament, and adopted by the Church of Scotland in 1647. It remains the doctrinal standard of Presbyterian churches worldwide, and its opening chapter on Holy Scripture is among the most influential statements of the doctrine of the Bible ever written.

Chapter texts from the original printings are being prepared for the library. The confession's first chapter is closely paralleled, with only minor wording differences, by Chapter 1 of the 1689 London Baptist Confession, whose full text is available here in the library.
